THE PORCH LIGHT IS BURNING AGAIN

Tonight after supper she’ll walk down the hall
And turn the front porch light on
Everyone tells her she’s waiting in vain
Cause she just can’t believe he’s gone

She’ll get out the letter that’s yellowed with age
Carefully read every line
How can a litter cause so much pain
And still leave one ray of hope to shine

Missing in action since 1965
There’s still a chance that he might be alive
He may come home she just doesn’t know when
Tonight the porch light is burning again

Maybe amnesia has robbed him of the past
Shell shocked wandering aimlessly
Or maybe he’s hostage in some prison camp
With no hope of ever being free

Or maybe he’s lying in some unmarked grave
An unknown soldier’s unknown resting place
How can we send a young man off to war
And have him disappear without a trace
